Transsylvanians-Denever [Speed-Folk]

This album by the Berlin-based Hungarian speed-folk act, the high pitch Hungarian vocals are unique but slightly annoying after a while. Musically it’s quite an interesting blend of styles with everything from ska, rock, rap and techno making an appearance. The musicians are technically very good and there is excellent timing in the songs.

Szilvana’s vocals can be nice, the slower she sings the more beautiful it sounds but the songs speed up to such a pace that it ultimately ends up a bit of a piercing shriek. Each song on the album is unbelievably different from the slow and moody “Evening in Transylvania” to the mad intensity of Repulo! If you can warm to the vocals then you’ll love this, otherwise it could prove tricky at times.
