El impresionante debut del conjunto japonés Jalan Jalan que evoca la isla de Bali a través de instrumentos originales, las melodías se mueven ingeniosamente y disponen el ambiente, y su estilo es floreciente.
El Gamelan Balinés es el centro de la música: con gongs, el gamelan completo (el teclado de metal utilizados en gamelan), flautas de bambú, y la percusión, haciendo del album BALI sentirse especialmente arraigado en las tradiciones de la isla de las flores.

What is folk song? The term is vague and seems to be getting vaguer. However, the songs on this record may conveniently be called “industrial folk songs” for without exception they were created by industrial workers out of their own daily experience and were circulated, mainly by word of mouth to be used by the songwriter's workmates in mines, mills and foundries. That other branch of workers' song, made by learned writers and musicians on behalf of the proletariat and passed on chiefly through print is not represented on this record. However excellent, such songs belong to a different order and require some other label than that of “folk song”. Here, we repeat, our concern is with songs made by working people out of their own traditions and for their own use.
The folk songs of industrial workers have not been much noticed. Cecil Sharp and other great collectors confined themselves to the rural past and rather shunned the industrial present. Thereby they allowed themselves only a partial view of Britain's musical folklore, for in fact the industrial community has much to show of traditional song native to itself, and indeed the creation of folk song has passed almost entirely into the scope of the working class of the towns within the last century or so as this record may suggest. Though the performance of folk song lingered on in the countryside, the composition of new stuff had to all intents ceased in the villages by the mid-19th century; but among industrial workers the creation of new songs celebrating strikes, pit disasters, workshop incidents etc. persisted and seems lately to have taken a fresh lease of life in somewhat altered circumstances.
We have said that industrial folk song has been neglected hitherto. As far as the light of present knowledge extends, the richest store seems to be found among miners and textile workers. Mining, spinning and weaving are occupations that provided themes for many songs well before the industrial revolution began to affect popular culture in the latter half of the 18th century. Subsequent industrial developments - steel, railways, etc. - which lacked this early fund of song, seem to have remained much weaker in poetry and music than the older traditional industries among whom good songmakers, some of them youngsters, are still to be found. But it must be said that as yet the ground is little explored and surprises may be in store for the searcher. What is so far found, of old stuff and new, is a reproof to those who profess to believe that the cultural horizon of the working class is bounded by the bingo hall and the idiots' lantern. It is true that most of these songs have only a limited circulation; it is also true that the circulation is widening. As yet the industrial community is only dimly aware of its own self-made cultural heritage; but that awareness is growing. This record, in a brief survey, presents but a few of the songs that working men and women have made out of their own lives. If it helps to make the songs wider known, good. If it inspires the making of new industrial songs, better still. The tradition is a fine one and worth perpetuating.

And, if this isn’t enough, there’s Sainkho Namtchylak, too.

Nació el 22 de diciembre de 1949 en La Plata - Provincia de Buenos Aires, Argentina. Comenzó con el piano a la edad de 7 años, y en su adolescencia también incluye el bajo electrico, formando un grupo beat, que con el tiempo se convirtió en Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota, donde participó en las primeras etapas de la banda.
Paralelamente estudia música clásica con Enrique Gerardi e ingresa en la escuela de Bellas Artes( La Plata) en el curso de composición y dirección orquestal. También experimenta en el campo de la música electroacústica, con el maestro Jorge Rapp. Viaja a París y estudia en el IRCAM, (instituto de investigación musical ) con Guy Rebel., en donde desarrollan nuevas texturas sonoras de vanguardia. Viaja a Estados Unidos en donde estudia en Holywood , California, piano y composición, en Deep Grove School of Music, graduándose en esta escuela. Estudia en universidad de Los Angeles film Scoring, relacionandose con el conocido compositor Mark Isham, quién lo introduce , produciéndolo en su primer album para Windham Hill Records. Continúa su carrera discográfica para Narada Records, compañía que sigue contandolo entre sus artistas. DATOS DE SU CARRERA MUSICAL:

Rachid Taha fué uno de los pioneros del rock árabe en los años 80 del siglo XX, momento de nueva conciencia política entre hijas e hijos de inmigrantes, particularmente de Argelia, que comenzaban a reclamar espacio propio en la ciudadanía francesa. Músico prolífico, originario de Orán (la capital del raï), desde sus comienzos sus canciones han sido un intento de hermanar el folklore mediterráneo con el rock, agitando conciencias contra las formas de exclusión a través de su música, que apuesta por el mestizaje y la fusión.
Diwân (1998) y Diwân 2 (2006) son dos de sus trabajos más representativos. Producidos por Steve Hillage, en ambos discos revisa grandes compositores e intérpretes de la canción árabe como Farid El Atrache (de Egipto), Abderrahmane Amrani (Dahmane El Harrachi), autor del hit “Ya Rayah”, y otros clásicos de Marruecos y Argelia como Mohamed Mazouni, estrella de la canción franco-árabe de los años 70 con el tema “Ecoute Moi Camarade”. “Agatha”, tema del camerunés Francis Bebey, es una de las mejores canciones contra el racismo, salpicada de ironía y humor, donde la utilización de un instrumento tradicional de la cultura mandinga como la kora da un toque rítmico y armónico espectacular.
Las canciones están cantadas en francés y árabe, utilizando instrumentos tradicionales como el oud, flautas, darbukas… que recuerdan el ambiente ahumado de los cafés de Orán y El Cairo. Al hipnotismo que produce su escucha contribuye la participación de la Orquesta de Cuerdas de El Cairo y el virtuoso intérprete de laúd Hakim Hamadouche.

Ocho largos años han pasado desde la edición de Halalium (Apartment 22, 2000), primer trabajo del productor-programador-percusionista Moulay Youssef Adel alias U-Cef.Si por aquel entonces la música de tradición árabe y del Magreb se unían al drum´n´bass, el paso del tiempo parece haber hecho recordar a U-Cef, una gran variedad de influencias musicales vividas desde su Rabat natal. Halalwood parece ser el resultado de eso, una mirada al camino recorrido: desde Rabat a Montpelier, Nueva York, Detroit y Londres, desde los 70 hasta la actualidad, desde las bandas sonoras de Shaft y Boollywood de la infancia, el Jimmi Hendrix o Led Zeppelin de la adolescencia, el funk y el disco de Kool and the Gang, Sly Stone o Funkadelic en la juventud, el Hip Hop descubierto en Francia y Estados Unidos, o el techno y el drum´n´bass londinenses. Todo ello emplatado sobre la sutil porcelana Chaabi, Allaui o Gnawa. Una complejidad que tan solo se hace patente al teorizar sobre el papel y en el que al oído resulta sorprendentemente natural. Diez temas, diez colaboraciones (Mirror System, Rachid Taha y Steve Hillage, Uk Apache, Amina Annabi, Damon Albarn…), con el trabajo de producción que esto representa, y en los que destacar Mo´Rock´n´Roll con Mbarka y Justin Adams, Ouddamak con Natacha Atlas o la tremendísima “Gnawabatucada” Marhabahia junto a Said Damir y Pastel, editada anteriormente en el recopilatorio Paris Barbes Tour (Newbled Vibrations, 2004). 1993 es cuando sale: «Anthropon Erga » (La Obra del Hombre), la música es una vez más por Stamatis Kraounakisy las letras, por supuesto, de Lina Nikolakopoulou. Otra monumental obra maestra musical. Alkistis es una inquieta y valiente mujer. Junto con Andreas Voutsinas, Lina Nikolakopoulou,Stamatis Kraounakis, Ilias y Marosoulis se creó la "más caliente" escena en Atenas, que transformóuna zona muerta en el centro de música en directo. Gazi 1993-4, la increíble actuación musical "Anthropon erga", que viajó después por toda Grecia, y en el extranjero 190 actuaciones: Nueva York en el City Center, con 7 apoteosis bises, Atenas, Peiraeus, N. Ionia, Vrilisia, Petroupoli,Gazi, Chipre: Lemesos, Lakatamia, Larnaka, Leukosia, La Canea, Rodas, Lesbos, Kavala, Volos, Florina y muchas más ciudades
