Stella Rambisai Chiweshe - Chisi [África]

Nació a finales de los años 40, en Mhondoro, Zimbabwe.Es una de las pocas mujeres que tocan la música mbira del pueblo Shona. Chiwese empezó aprendiendo a tocar la mbira en 1964. Era muy raro que una muchacha tocara la mbira en ese momento y Chiweshe tuvo que enfrentarse a la desaprobación de su comunidad, que la trató como "mujer suelta". En 1974, grabó en solitario, "Kasahwa", En los seis años siguientes participaría en la grabación de 24 discos. Se unió a la Compañía del Ballet Nacional en 1981 y empezó a viajar por Europa y América.

With her unique blend of traditional Shona songs, personal stories and observations, and tales of the ancient spirits,prophets and ancestors of the Zimbabwean people, Stella Rambisai Chiweshe is travelling on one path in two directions. When performing solo on the Mbira, she journeys through the world of her ancestors, preserving their traditions; backed by the dynamic sounds of her band, the Earthquake, she visits the urban streets of harare and calls on the younger, westenized generation to take pride in their own culture.
