Viamedina - VIAMEDINA [Italia]

Viamedina is first of all a band. A project born in 1996 by Lino Davide, passioned sercher of popular music and tradition and author of lyrics and musics of these parthenopean band.
Mediterranean and Balkan suggestions and sonorities, sometimes perhaps a hint of musical tradition from across the sea, but above all an acoustic atmosphere with a large use of not strictly Mediterranean percussions. And then classic, acoustic and battente guitars, bouzouki, ud, accordion, violin, acoustic bass, congas, Bata, bodhran, Tammorre and cymbals, darbuka, cajon, jembe, flute, sax etc.

In 2001 the first important step: Michael Pergolani and Renato Marengo from Radio Rai 1 , at the dawning of their fortunate program Demo, a real cult transmission, as first included viamedina in a recording production: the song ?Stu Mare? became one of the most listened songs of their program of which it was a signature tune for some weeks and then included in a historical compilation: ?The best of Demo?.

This same song was included in what has been one of the greatest events of the independent music in Italy: Radio Pirata: a compilation of the independent labels promoted by Audiocoop, distributed in all the Italian newsstands by Independent Music. Thanks to them all Viamedina did its debut on a national circulation Cd. From Demo to the big screen! The song ?Stu Mare? in may 2004 became the ltheme of the movie ?Ladri di Barzellette?, by Bruno Colella & Leonardo Giuliano, in all the theatres in Italy and for over a month on the trailers of the most important specialized channels.

M. Pergolani and R. Marengo also included Viamedina in their Enciclopedy of Neapolitan Pop-Rock. From Demo then the participation to big live concerts. Viamedina has then continued his journey through the Italian squares in live cases and other prestigious musical Reviews.

After a national debut with ?Radio Pirata? another prestigious compilation, Sulla Memoria?, dedicated to the Memory Day: a great contribution of independent labels and artists against all the conflicts and the racial persecution, presented on occasion of Mantova Festival in 2004. Finally, in 2005 FolClubEthnosuoni decided to support this project publishing the first album: Viamedina, that runs through the musical path of this project, with unpublished songs by Lino Davide and the participation of numerous guests, like the vocalist Auly Kokko who has loaned her voice to one of the songs. In January 2006 the song Acqua was included in the compilation "The best of Indies in Italy" promoted by Audiocoop to represent the best of Italian independent music ath the Midem in Cannes. In February 2006 Viamedina participated as finalist to the SIAE Award.

Via Medina is a street of Naples by the Port, a sort of borderline between the city and the Sea. It has always been like this, a meeting point of different cultures and people, since the first approach of seamen and travelers to the city. In the nearby alleys there were a few nightclubs where tangos and tarantellas, blues and Tammurriate, jazz and popular Neapolitan songs where played and mixed together. This crossroads, most probably, was at the same time a starting and a departure point for music. New rhythms from across the sea reached our remotes valleys while our melodies traveled towards distant lands following the memory of travelers and seamen.

  1. Lindo álbum! Canções "napolitanas" são sempre uma carícia aos ouvidos, principalmente quando mescladas com as boas influências exteriores.
