Ganga Giri – Termite Grooves

Ganga Giri mixes red natural elements with fat tribal beats and dirty funky bass lines to create a unique tribal-technological deep earth dance experience. Explosive and pulsating, at times ambient and flowing, the music is a pumping percussive multi-layered experience of complex grooves and raw, deep natural sound.

“Ganga Giri is a wonderful musician. I first heard him at a Womad festival, and loved the mix of his ancient and primitive instrument with a wide range of great dance grooves. Ganga is really taking the didjeridu to places it has never been before and developing a unique style of music.”<<<Peter Gabriel>>>

While Ganga Giri now mixes techno-rock and other forms of pop music into his didgeridoo compositions, Termite Grooves is an absolute CLASSIC to many afficionados. This is the CD that had us absolutely captivated with Ganga Giri’s original style. While his newer music is gaining him fans across most of Europe and in his home of Australia, this CD is worth getting for its more traditional style. We listen to this CD more often than many other didge albums and never, ever get tired of it.

Didgeridoo is an instrument that falls into the classification of aerophone, like the alpenhorn, and a monotone–that is, it has one basic droning note. But the virtuoso player can make it yelp, sing, howl, beat out a rhythm and hum marvelously. It is supposed to have healing properties. And of course, it is sacred to the Aborigines of Arnhem Land and other parts of the Australian Outback. The didge is popular in Europe, especially Germany and Switzerland, where it has been taken up with great skill and enthusiasm. It is less popular in the US, but its time will come. Listen to Termite Grooves. If you love World Music or New Age, you will really enjoy this album.
