Alabama -Christmas Collection

Alabama is an American country band formed in 1969 with the original name Young Country. As Alabama they enjoyed considerable success in the 1980s with a string of platinum albums and many hit singles.

Young Country didn’t last long, as two members of the band went off to college. They got back together as Wildcountry in 1972, and a year later they decided to become full-time musicians. By 1977 they were Alabama and had signed an ill-fated one album deal with GRT. When the label went bust after a year, it took some time for the band to buy their way out of the restrictive contract.

After a self-released album, My Home’s in Alabama, they found success with the single “I Wanna Come Over”. The interest of the major labels was peaked and they signed to RCA Records. So began a successful recording career, with over thirty No.1 singles in the country music charts during the 80s and early 90s. Until 1999, all of their fourteen RCA albums achieved at least a platinum certification.
The band announced that they would be retiring from touring after their Farewell Tour of 2003/4 but they have continued to release albums. Their most recent record was 2007′s Songs of Inspiration II.
