The pianist Cesar Camargo Mariano and guitarist Romero Lubambo make for a perfect team on Duo, a set of duets. Performing Brazilian tunes, some straight-ahead jazz, and four originals, the duo mixes together a couple standards (Clifford Brown's "Joy Spring" and Jobim's "Wave") with some lesser-known but worthy selections. Although their solos are fine, it is their close interplay that is most impressive; plenty of subtle sparks fly. A delightful session.
