Hold Fast es el octavo trabajo del Dj G. Rag y Los Hermanos Patchekos, un proyecto de la propia discográfica de Andreas Stäber (Gutfeeling Records) que realiza producciones englobadas dentro de lo que se conoce como global music, género que eclosiona de la world music y del world beat.

Los Hermanos Patchekos se fundaron en 1999, durante un Oktober Fest, y hasta la fecha tienen seis discos, entre vinilos y compactos: Radio Tijuana (1999), 0321H (2001), Cadeau Bizarre (2003), München 7 (2005), Lucky Goddamn (2007) y Hold Fast (2009), todos con el sello Gutfeeling Records. Stäber también mantiene en activo a otro par de proyectos musicales: G.Rag and The Landlergschwister y al trío Dos Hermanos.

La banda, compuesta por once miembros, oriunda de Munich, toca instrumentos como guitarras (eléctricas, acústicas y steel), contrabajo, armónica, acordeón, trompetas, clarinetes, melódicas, percusiones varias y megáfonos. Hold Fast constituye un coctel de lo más sabroso: música afrocaribeña, swing gitano, alt country, bluegrass, latin groove, cajun, boogaloo, polka, ska, blues y rebetiko, entre otras corrientes. The Schäl Sick Brass Band regard themselves as craftsmen carefully taking the pick of the bunch of various musical traditions that can be found in the multicultural city of Cologne. For 15 years now the band has been taking their audience on excursions to all continents. Their pack includes tunes from the Balkans, afrobeats, oriental groove, Scandinavian themes and an extra portion of jazz, their compass being the consistent way of interpreting traditional elements – “humorous, but never disrespectful” (blue rhythm, summer 06).

Schäl Sick Brass Band started off as a large brass band on the „Schäl Sick“, the „wrong side“ of Cologne – without the famous cathedral, without great shopping malls, but with authentic working-class areas. This is where Raimund Kroboth, a great lover of world music, found a fertile soil for founding the Schäl Sick Brass Band. Today they are anything but a classical brass band. Kroboth, a native Bavarian and educated jazz guitarist, has assembled a band of international, virtuoso musicians that have two things in common: flexibility in style and musical daring.

Today, Udo Moll (trumpet), Annette Maye (clarinet), Matti Muche (trombone) and Joachim Gellert (tuba) form the exquisite blow section. Polish drummer Mirek Pyschny lays the foundation for unorthodox world music experiments and the boss usually plays the Bohemian waldzither and occasionally cracks on his 60s Telecaster.

The cosmopolitan combo likes to invite international guests to contribute their characteristic musical traditions. Sounds from Turkey, Bulgaria, Greece or North Africa blend together and form new inventive combinations. Among Schäl Sick Brass Band’s special guests have been the virtuosos of DuOud as well as Egyptian singer Mohamed Mounir. Recently singer Anna Lindblom has been adding a Nordic touch to the multimusic community, where before the Iranian singer Maryam Akhondy and Ivanka Ivanova from Bulgaria had inspired the “world music theatre” (Süddeutsche Zeitung).

Schäl Sick Brass Band have always remained faithful to their motto „Think global – blow local“ and today they are a well-known quantity in Germany’s world music scene. Cologne still forms their background, but in spite of all local patriotism the Schäl Sick Brass Band have grown their musical roots elsewhere – all around the world. This does not only reflect in their multicultural utopia and the stylistic inventiveness, but also in their frequent international cooperations. But with all stylistic variations and musical ideas one thing never changes: the Schäl Sick Brass Band does not give in to musical dogma. They rather are: always different, always new.

Kayah i Bregović es una de las más impresionantes colecciones de música que Goran Bregović ha realizado en su carrera. Con la exquisita cantante polaca Kayah, de personalidad arrebatadora y voz áspera y preciosa, realizan una exótica mezcla oriental con tintes de viejo folk polaco y sonidos bizantinos y yiddish, latiendo los sonidos como un retrato de lo más original de la música polaca alternativa. Así, pues, no es de extrañar que esta versión sea uno de los álbumnes más vendidos de la historia de Polonia.

“To Nie Ptak” es un precioso desplieque de instrumentos de la tierra para lucimiento de la voz de Kayah, con precisos toques de balalaica e intervenciones de coros. “100 Lat Mlodej Parze” es una típica canción de feria zíngara; en “Bylam Różą” Kayah se acompaña de guitarras y de un magnífico coro, resultando una excepcional mezcla de tradición musulmana con católica.

“Prawy Do Lewego” es toda una fanfarria de instrumentos y música desplegada para que la fiesta no termine nunca, de compás incandescente y repetido magistralmente. “Tabakiera” tiene ritmo de tango, y “Ćaje Śukarije” (que se versiona en la banda sonora de “Underground”) es un estupendo despliegue vocal de Kayah, acompañado de una voz infantil, en la que las notas largas no se le complican ni lo más mínimo. El disco se cierra con “Nie Ma Nie Ma Ciebie” (el maravilloso “Ederlezi” de “Tiempo de gitanos”), ritmos bosnios y romaníes, profusión de instrumentos de viento y percusiones al servicio de un genial tema de amor zíngaro. Un estupendo final de una fiesta que nunca se debería acabar. Un disco maravilloso que no debe perderse.

Caro Emerald, con una voz seductora y sensual, presenta Deleted Scenes from the Cutting Room Floor (2010), un adictivo debut discográfico con 12 pistas con reminiscencias groovin’ jazz, mambos, tango, y con un título que hace alusión a términos cinematográficos.

La historia de Deleted Scenes from the Cutting Room Floor es la historia de un éxito no programado, a diferencia de muchos otros productos que pululan el universo musical. Los productores holandeses Jan van Wieringen y David Schreurs, junto con el autor canadiense Vince Degiorgio, preparaban un tema para la presentación de una agrupación japonesa. La cantante que iba a grabar la demo no llegó, Caro la sustituyó, cantó el tema, le gustó y la incorporó a su repertorio. El tema era "Back It Up", que un año más tarde fue presentado en la cadena de televisión de Amsterdam AT5. La respuesta fue inmediata: las y los espectadores no paraban de llamar y de mandar e-mails pidiendo información sobre Caro y sobre su pegadiza canción. Así que Caro (Caroline Esmeralda van der Leeuw, con la carrera de vocalista de jazz, participando en el grupo holandés Les Elles y miembro de la Philharmonic Funk Foundation), junto con un amigo, produjo un vídeo de bajo presupuesto que terminó en Youtube que, de nuevo, obtuvo una respuesta abrumadora rogándole literalmente la gente que vendiera su tema en iTunes.

Así que Caro y su equipo decidieron centrarse en su primer álbum. Inspirado en las películas y la música de los años 40 y 50 del siglo XX, comenzaron a trabajar en nuevas canciones e ideas. En otoño de 2008 el productor David Schreurs se reunió en Toronto con Vince Degiorgio para escribir los temas. Meses más tarde terminaron el trabajo con Jan van Wieringen. El resultado fue el de un inmenso disco, emocionante, accesible, una amalgama de jazz de salón, tangos cinematográficos, groovin´ jazz y contagiosos mambos como si hubiesen sido registrados en 1950 en los estudios de Hollywood de los más famosos, la inspiración del ayer grabada con la creatividad y la tecnología de hoy. Pero los golpes de cigarro, las pegadizas canciones y la inventiva producción nos dicen en la actualidad que Caro Emerald ha puesto su nombre en el horizonte.

The Hungry March Band – Critical Brass

Roaring out of Brooklyn NYC, the Hungry March Band is the greatest brass march band of all time. The HMB is based in New York City. We are a community group with a membership as diverse as our music. Put on your dancing shoes and break out the fancy threads because we’ve got the party going on — a blazing parade of flesh, blood, steel, brass and wood. We are the music of the people!

Our musical repertoire consists of original compositions written by band members as well as scores selected from our multi-cultural world community. These songs range from New Orleans street bands, European brass traditions, Gypsy/Roma classics, wedding brass bands from India, the jazz world and the global community of NYC. The band is an ever evolving musical experiment influenced and inspired from Brooklyn’s backyard with Latin flavor, punk rock noise, hip hop beats and music of the streets.

Our discography includes three self-produced CD’s. The most recent, “Critical Brass” was recorded at Loho Studios, NYC, in the Spring of 2004 merely days after returning from a very successful European tour. Our second release “On the Waterfront” (2003) was recorded in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and dedicated to the hallowed grounds upon which the tunes were wrought. The virgin debut, Hungry March Band Official Bootleg, (2001) consists of a series of live recordings and is considered an historical reference for exercises in wind, percussion and fluid dynamics.

We have been featured in articles in the New York Times, The Village Voice, London Times, New York Post, Time Out New York, New York Press, Tokyo Times, various European publications and have countless mentions in blogs, various zines and web articles. We have appeared on several TV networks including Lifetime, CNN, and New York One, march bys on the fly with ABC, NBC, CBS as well as appearances in several documentaries including an HMB feature Rockumentary, A Cat in a Bag.

We have performed in a huge variety of fine venues and celebrated events. The band is infamous for playing shows that are somewhere between legendary and magical. Such planned and spontaneous performances have included guerilla art events, the Staten Island Ferry, NYC subways, Brighton Beach Boardwalks and steps of the NYC Post Office. We are available to play festivals, parties, parades, community celebrations, conventions, birthdays, weddings, bar mitzvahs…and remain open to suggestion!

HMB Pleasure Society and Second Line is an evolving extension of the band that adds so much spice to our parades and events, that includes a dedicated group, its participation in parade presentations features up to 75 performers who reflect the music with their vibrant dancing, baton twirling, fire spinning, hoola-hooping, gymnastics, stilt walking, and puppeteering.

Taraf de Haïdouks -discografía[RESUBIDO]

Taraf de Haïdouks es un conjunto musical romaní, originario de la comuna de Clejani, del distrito Giurgiu (judeţ) en Rumania. Es el grupo más célebre del género en la era post-comunista.
Son conocidos en su Rumania natal como "Taraful Haiducilor". Su traducción cuasi-literal sería "Banda de los Hombres malvados o fuera de la ley", aunque "taraf" es también el nombre tradicional de un grupo de lăutari(músicos gitanos de la tradición rumana). "Haiduc" o "haiduk" es una palabra de origen turco que significa "bandido"; en rumano tiene una connotación arcaica o rústica. El nombre del grupo es conocido internacionalmente como "Taraf de Haïdouks" (construcción genitiva francesa).

La agrupación se formó en 1989, poco antes de la muerte del dictador Nicolae Ceauşescu, pero actualmente fueron descubiertos por el etnomusicólogo rumano Speranţa Rădulescu, quien primero los grabó en 1983 para el archivo del Instituto de Etnografía y Folklore. La formación original reunía cerca de 12 músicos; a veces suelen incluir algunos más llegando a tener 30 artistas en sus filas. El primer encuentro serio con el mundo occidental se llevó a cabo gracias al etnomusicólogo suizo Laurent Aubert y los músicos belgas Stéphane Karo y Michel Winter.

The Salvation Army, one of Britain’s best-known charitable organisations, has today signed an exclusive £1 million deal with Universal Music, the world’s leading record company and musical home of Eminem, Amy Winehouse, Duffy, The Killers and Take That.



The International Staff Band (ISB) of The Salvation Army, the crème de la crème of Salvation Army brass bands, have recorded the first album in the deal, which will go on sale on 24th November.



Dr Stephen Cobb, Director of The Salvation Army’s Music Ministries Unit and Bandmaster of the International Staff Band said, “Some of the music was a little different to our usual repertoire, but very enjoyable to play. It was inspiring for us to work with the highly professional Universal team and to produce what we believe will be an album that will inspire listeners!”

La Reine Margot es una película de 1994, coproducida por Francia, Alemania e Italia y dirigida por Patrice Chéreau. Se basa en la novela histórica del mismo nombre, de 1845, escrita por Alejandro Dumas y adaptada por Daniel Thompson, que describe los acontecimientos posteriores a la masacre de San Bartolomé de 1572 en el siglo XVI en Francia.

Cada año desde 1961 Serbia se convierte en la anfitriona del Festival de Brass "Guca", llamado oficialmente 'Dragacevo Trumpet Festival', recibe el nombre de la aldea donde se celebra: Guca. Es aquí donde principalmente las bandas de música gitana de todas partes de los Balcanes se congregan y compiten por el premio 'Golden Trumpet'. Cuando no compiten en el festival las bandas se encuentran tocando en bodas y otras reuniones festivas.

"It's pure insanity, and insanity has no rules..."

It is in the Guca (pronounced GOO-chah) Village, Dragacevo, Serbia, that each year the best Serbian and Gypsy brass orchestras meet for the now famous Folk Festival held there. Towards the end of the festival there is held a competition, the winners being awarded the 'Golden Trumpet and 'First Trumpet'. It was in 1961 that this competition started and this CD compiles some of the best of the winners over the many years.

The festival in Guca can be a frantic affair with many bands vying for public attention. The songs and melodies they play reflect the Serbian way of life and are typically heard at social events such as weddings, funerals, farewell parties, baptisms, etc as well as celebrating a good harvest or similar good fortune. The folk circle dance, or chain dance, named the Kolo and the Cocek are favourites amongst the audiences.
